Hi, I am Rob. I have been a member of the poetry group since the start. When we began we were called ‘The Caged Poets’.
I enjoy reading and writing poems especially ones with a comical taste, I love mystery and romance. I enjoy rhyming and laughing, I love the nonsensical and the bizzare, anything from talking camel’s, koala’s that steal your shoes, rain that never stops.
I love being in the poetry group sharing words and inspiring each other.
See below for a selection of my favourite poems.

I was inspired by tales of detective novels and broken hearts.
The Night The Rain Wouldn’t Stop
The ground is a maze of mist
A splash as I step off the curb
Her downward eyes told me everything
Crushed rose petals floating down the gutter
A near-by hot-dog cart, the buns soggy and ruined
I sigh as I start walking. Blurry lights pass me by
I cannot truly see them. Strangers brush pass me
Hurrying into doorways, complaining loudly with
Evident sarcasm, I stop walking and look to the sky.
The heavens crying on my face, I am forever lost.
The downpour is never ending, like the pain inside my
Heart. The rain and my heart are the same.
I saw them both.
Him and Her.
Like the rain my heart aches it just won’t stop.

I was inspired by a poetry book cover, that Anita our poetry teacher brought to share. It amused and inspired me to write about it.
Camel on the Telephone
There was a camel on the telephone
I wonder what was wrong
There was a camel on the telephone
We didn’t talk for long
The camel on the telephone
Did he leave because of my song
Did he not like my singing?
I did not sing for long.
There was a camel on the telephone
I think he got the number wrong
I miss that camel on the telephone
But the memory has never gone.

The poem ‘My Shoes’ is a poem about the shoes I wore on my wanderings around Bristol. Walking is important to me to keep my mind active and my body moving.
My shoes
My shoes, they take me to places both near and far.
Without them I am still.
They take me to people,
places and objects
they are MY shoes.
I have seen, I have heard
I have felt because of my shoes.
I have met people who are people,
my shoes have led me to them.
So what do I see what do I choose?
These well worn shoes.

I wrote ‘Lion in the Lift’ after talking about animals in strange places with friends in the poetry group. It made me laugh so I wrote about it.
Lion in the Lift
There’s a lion in the lift
Where he came from no-one knows
There’s a lion in the lift, his eyes follow me to and fro.
There’s a lion in the lift,
He has a roving nose. Every few seconds it blows and blows.
There’s a lion in the lift and he has a toothy grin.
With the amount he smiles, he must have had some gin.
There’s a lion in the lift, we are going up a floor
I ask his stop and he says ‘a few more’.
There’s a lion in the lift and he’s licking his lips, so I ask him
Politely if he would like curry sauce and chips.
There’s a lion in the lift, music begins to play.
There’s a lion in the lift and his tail begins to sway.
There’s a lion in the lift and he’s singing away.
There’s a lion in the lift and the doors open wide
I take a deep breath and step outside. The space is full of lions
This is not wise.
There are lions outside the lift sprawling wide and wide.
