Misfits were invited to perform for Bristol University student doctors again this year as part of their 3D week. It is always a great way for the Misfits to highlight how doctors can work with them as well as other people with learning disabilities in a person-centred way. Whether it is making reasonable adjustments within their practice or finding ways to communicate in a person-centred way. The actors enjoyed performing sketches and poems to highlight this in a creative way.

We received some lovely feedback from the students.

‘It’s improved my knowledge of learning disabilities inside as well as outside clinical environments and helped me understand their perspective on healthcare’.

‘It has allowed me to experience the perspectives of the performers within a healthcare setting. It brought to light lots of aspects of people with disabilities experiences in hospital I have never considered. I have found it enlightening’.

‘The performances were compelling. I found the part where the Misfits were asked to define medical terms eye-opening’.

‘Helped me to reflect on my clinical practice and how I could adapt this for people with learning disabilities’.

‘Drew my attention to the Covid DNR policies’.

‘The poems gave me insight into thoughts and feelings of patients with disabilities so we can help improve their experience when seeking healthcare’.

‘Do not resuscitate sketch was powerful – the message is profound!’.
