Over the last few months, Misfits member Beth has been training to be a Community Reporter, thanks to Bristol City Council.

Hear below from Beth what she learnt and how she found it:

Last year on the 5th and 6th of December I went to the Community Reporter training.  It involved about 13 people from different community groups around Bristol.  We talked about telling stories to help people get their voices heard.

On the first day, we practised interviewing and filming people the second day we looked at the People’s Voice media website and the action plans.

We tried new foods from different cultures for lunch which was nice and delicious.

I liked the interviewing and filming bit but didn’t really learn anything on the first day as I knew how to do filming anyway and it was a bit too jargony.

We thought about where and how to get the stories.  We can use photos, audio, films, exhibitions etc.  You need to think about peace and quiet, safety, and the person’s agreement (consent) to give you their story.

We ended with ideas about our own stories.

Then on March 27 and 28th I did the second part of the course, we filmed someone’s story and edited it on a programme called Opensource which I learnt how to use.  This was fun.

It was nice to meet and chat to new people and get to do some editing.

Thank you Bristol City Council for the training!
