We’re thrilled to announce that poems from our Misfits poetry group are being published in Flight: A Plumb Lines Anthology.
Our Misfits poetry group have worked with Lapidus International to write poems about Flight – we even shared our poems at Bristol Library for International Day of Reading – and now their finished work is printed and ready to read!
Lapidus website says:
Flight brings together poems on the theme of flying and flight, celebrating the work of members from three organisations:
- The Misfits Theatre Company, led by people with learning disabilities
- Diverse UK, who work with adults identifying as autistic
- Lyrically Lifted by the Bristol Drugs Project, which uses creativity to engage adults affected by drug or alcohol use
The group are really happy about this project, particularly because of the final outcome of a published book – Lapidus are sending a copy for each of the members and a copy to have at the Misfits hubs.
You can hear more about the book, and buy your own online or physical copy, at this link.
Hear from our members what they thought:
Bill – I feel honoured because people are reading our poems it gives me great joy.
Alistair – this project has made me feel famous
Tim – I’m honoured people will be reading my poems in a book. It makes me feel more popular in Bristol and I feel good about that. It makes us more popular in the local community. I feel proud of myself and how it changes how people think about what we do.
Dan – I love it, learning new information and being in a book is amazing. It gives us a voice.
Claire – I really enjoyed doing the project
Beth – It was nice to be included, I feel like people should know that people with learning disabilities can do poetry – it’s good to something different and get our imagination going – I want to do more. I feel proud of this project. – it gives us as people with learning disabilities a voice.
Rachael – I feel proud of myself and the group
To give you a taste of the poems, here is a video of Liam reading out ‘Freedom’ – we’d love you to get a copy of the book to read the rest!
