Bill Loveridge

Hi, I am Bill – I am a part of the poetry group, people listen to me and it makes me feel important.

I like to write funny poems, they are a part of me and it makes me laugh. I also like to write about serious things that bring back memories and I write about difficult things that I experience.

The poetry group are a great team of ‘poet-teers’ we work together really well and support each other and our writing.
See below for some of my favourite poems that I have written.

I wrote this poem about the massive mirror ball outside ‘We The Curious’ in Bristol. I saw my reflection in it and I fell in love with it. The poem is about me being strong in who I am and being anything I want to be.

Mirror ball

Stand by ball of mirrors
Not a rugby ball
Not a football
It mirrors me
Long distance loves me
Reflecting not an actor
Not a body builder
Not a prime minister
Surface reflects
Where I am
Just me
Born with a purpose

This poem is about my experience of epilepsy, I have had it all my life.

Epilepsy by Bill Loveridge

It comes out of nowhere
Waits in dark places
It wipes my memory
The world goes blank

Don’t know who or what I am

Waits in the dark places
It comes out of nowhere
The world goes blank

What’s happening to me?

They shine lights in my eyes
It’s always a surprise to me
The nurse says, ‘Oh you’ve had another one and’
Red all around, dry mouth

How many minutes are lost 5 or 10
It happens again

It comes out of nowhere
I’m at a party
Having a laugh
The world goes blank
I don’t know what I’ve done
They shine in my eyes
It’s wiped my memory
Waits in dark places
Comes out of nowhere

This poem is important to me, it’s about my dad who is no longer here. I think about him all the time and the fun we had.

Me and Dad

You say ‘your team lost. Boo.’

I say ‘no they haven’t – hooray’

We laughed.

I say ‘What would you like sir?’

You say ‘full English please’

I say ‘it’s Wednesday’

You say ‘Time for a pint’

You say ‘never mix your drinks’

And I listened

You say ‘when I was young’

I listened

You say ‘when I met your mum’

And I listened.

You were one in a million to me.

And I listened.

Flight  is about me being brave, I wrote about birds being brave and imagined I could fly – it would be great if I could. Sometimes I dream that I am Superman 🙂
Flying is always on my mind

Be brave

  I’m doing a nosedive!
Whoooooosh
Through the air like jelly blancmange

Birds watching with a fright
With delight when  job’s done

So be brave bird
Whoooooosh is natural to me
