Claire Brennan

Hi, I am Claire, being part of the poetry group makes me feel proud of who I am.

I like to write about being independent and my smart phone, these things give me freedom to travel around Bristol. I also like cats, foxes, wolves and bears, I am passionate about animals.

My favourite poets are John Cooper Clarke and Maya Angelou. I enjoy writing poems as a group to hear different people’s input. I love working with different artists, doing poetry performances and telling people all about the Misfits.

This poem is about who I am.

I Am

I am from a room full of teddy bears and Pokemon characters

I am from monopoly board somewhere you can build houses and hotels

I am cheeky doughnuts who like shoot jam out at people

I am from a city where there is lots of things going on,  I am from independent like a walking smartphone.

This poem is about fantasy dreams and friendship.

Give Me I Said

Give me the owls of the trees
who live in the woods. Give me
the golden moon which is in
the twilight sky, I asked
for ticking clocks
inside an enchanted mansion. Give me
the hedgehogs who like to eat our food.
Give me the howling wolves who
do teamwork together. Give me the bears
who enjoy dancing with the girls.
Give me the lake with the ducks
and swans who like to do swimming lessons.
I and one of my best mates were in the city
in the UK around midnight.
The last thing I asked for was our friendship.

This poem is about different actions that I take to be independant.

Looks Like

Action looks like a smart phone and a security alarm.

Action looks like a best friend making sure you are safe.

Action looks like T1 bus and M1 bus out on a Saturday.

Action looks like you are home with support staff, look after you.

Action looks like a fire exit  when a fire is inside a building.

This poem is about flying

I would strap a parliament of owls on to me

Fly towards the Mr Sun and Mrs Moon
Then the owls start saying to me Twi Twoo.
Because they would like to build a nest on top of the roof of my home.

I would strap a flamboyance of flamingos onto me
And then I and them would move from the west country
All the way to up north in the UK
By flying and all of a sudden land
In one city and so to a place where you find a theme park
