Dan Bryan

Hi, I am Dan, I joined the poetry group when it started in 2017, I have loved it ever since.

I love going on trips to different places to find new things to write about, my favourite was going to Wake The Tiger in Bristol.

I really enjoy performing poetry that’s when it comes alive for me and a spark happens within me.

I like being part of the poetry group we meet up on Friday afternoons, we always have a natter and a laugh before we start.

Love is everywhere, in bags, sandwiches, myself and my friends, this is what I write about.

See below for a selection of my favourite poems.

This poem is about the things I do and don’t want in love.

Lovey Dovey

I don’t want chocolates
or lovey dovey cards.
Because I am a man
that set in my ways.
But I will give you a horse
that will gallops to the sun
with your hair breezing
in the wind. But we have
nothing between us
and we don’t have
anything in common.
Because love is failed to me.
Love is something stuck
down the bottom of my shoe
and I don’t know what else to say.

I’m trying to be truthful
Not a letter of love that
Is half an hour late.
Not a box of chocolates
That melt in my hands.
Not a red hot spicy
Pepper that will burn
You tongue.
Not a glass of water
That has got spit in.
Not a monkey that escaped
From Bristol Zoo.
Not a secret love
to make me embarrassed.

I wrote this poem about being stressed and things that get to me sometimes.

Overload

Why is my head keep accepting everything?

Why can’t I say no?

I need a break. Do I?

Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No.

Oh! I don’t know.

I need help. I’m getting sleepy and bored.

What about read a book? Nope.

Go for a walk. Nope.

Go dancing? Nope.

Have a hot drink? Nope.

Have a cold bath with foam? Definitely.

Go to bed? Never.

Sticking my head out of a window

with the wind hitting my face?

Absolutely.

I wrote this because I like going shopping and I buy a bag and take it everywhere I go.

Bag and Me

Bag’s are everywhere, different bag slogans like:

Tesco’s, Lidl’s, Sainsbury’s etc.

But there’s one bag I love.

We go everywhere as far as we go.

We went to the zoo, our first date at the park.

It was love at first sight, as we sat under the stars.

My bag and me felt hot.

My bag caught fire but I managed to save her life.

She was my bag for life.

This poem is about how much I love my food.

I Talk To My Sandwich

My sandwich has got a crust, salad, chicken, it is soft.

I tell my sandwich,  that I am a pig that flies in the sky.

That the stars always shine in your beetroot.

We swim together, celery and hand in the sea.

My love for me is my sandwich and I always have a heart.

I tell my sandwich it’s 5.45 pm, let’s go back to the hotel.

My sandwich has a name, it’s called Mary.

I tell Mary lets go back to the future to see yourself.

Mary and I are in Brazil soaking up the sun.

I am what I am.

I want to eat my sandwich.
