Short Story: A Tempest at Rhythm of The Night!

On Wednesday 22nd July, members of Misfits Theatre went over to Bristol Old Vic to see Firebird Theatre’s The Tempest!

We all really enjoyed the show, but one of us was completely inspired…

Our Misfits actor Penny wrote a story based on Firebird’s version of The Tempest, about a powerful storm arriving at Rhythm of The Night!

Have a read below, and go and see The Tempest! It is on until Saturday 25th July, but be quick because tickets are limited! Buy tickets here.

A Tempest at Rhythm of The Night

I’m all dressed up at my very best. I was queueing up with all my friends to go into Rhythm of The Night for the night of a lifetime, dancing and drinking and a lot of fun.

Once inside I took my seat, and Peter followed me on his mobility scooter and we sat together and I watched everyone having a good time, dancing and drinking the night away.

Then, all of a sudden there was a tremendous bang!

I said “What’s that bang?” and I looked up and the ceiling of Trinity had practically split open, and a bolt of lightning flashed through, followed by a rumbling roll of thunder.

Suddenly it was sheeting down with rain,

Sheeting, sheeting, sheeting, sheeting

It practically drowned all of trinity and everybody under a flood of water – water filled my mouth, I had a job to breathe and I said “What’s happening!?” but my voice was a gurgle.

One minute we were all having a good time, next this catastrophe happened! Then, there was another crack of thunder and all of a sudden the ceiling opened open even more than before and there was another burst of rain even harder.

Suddenly I felt the whole room split asunder.

The DJ and his music were going one direction, everyone was going one direction on the left side. People on the right side were going on the other direction, and I couldn’t see Peter!

Suddenly another flash of rain pushed me away from everybody and sent me rushing out the door, surrounded by water. The water was flooding Old Market! I saw transport buses floating in the water, everyone screaming “Help! Help Help” The water was filling my nose.

“Where are you taking me?!” I said to myself.

More thunder and lightning came crashing down and I thought “What kind of monstrous tempest is this? Should it be the war of the gods?”. I closed my eyes and kept my nose shut and I went down into the water. I let the water push me further and further and further until next minute I found myself opening out near Cumberland Basin and the Suspension Bridge. I saw a couple of tables and chairs from Rhythm of The Night, I saw people’s wine glasses and even the DJ’s music box! But no one was around.

“Where was Peter beyond my reach? He may be swept away for all I know. Where were all my friends – Dan, Lianne, everyone else. Brenda, Sara, Rhiannon, where was everyone else too?”

I looked up and the sky was really angry. I thought “Where is the storm taking me? Where is it taking me too? What is my destiny – to be drowned or where was I going to?”
