STAND UP with Misfits!
Last week our Misfits Poetry Group wrote a poem about how it feels to stand up, and the different ways we can do this whatever our abilities.
Standing up for what we believe in feels more important now than ever, so we wanted to share a few ways you can get your voices heard!
Consultation:
There are changes to PIP and disability benefits that are currently being looked out.
There is the opportunity for you to share your views on these changes until the end of June. You can tell them what you do and don’t like about the changes, and why you feel this way.
Here is an easy read article on these changes and the consultation.
You can fill in the consultation here. It can be confusing and not very accessible, so if you want help filling it out, let us know and we can help you.
Learning Disability Week:
WECIL are making a short film for Learning Disability Week on the theme “Now you see me”.
If you’d like to take part in this film, come to our Misfits Hub at St Paul’s Learning Centre on Thursday 22nd May or Thursday 29th May! Snacks will be provided!
If you ever want to chat about ways to share your voice, come and chat to us in the hub. We also know other amazing organisations who are helping PWLD use their voice, which we can introduce you to.

Stand Up
I rise
I stand
I elevate
I unfold
I uncurl
I lead
I dance into the day
I stretch into the sun
I remember my name
My voice tells me more
I raise it
I remember my brain telling me to stand on the earth
I remember the day I stood tall
I remember the day I protested
I protest amongst unrest
We rise
We stand
we speak
We hold
we dream
We build
We break what must be broken
We lift the sky together
