Bristol based Circus City are working with Misfits Theatre Company across 2024 to introduce our members to contemporary circus and to support them as they learn more about how they can increase accessibility of performances and the venues they use.

On Friday 1st November, Circus City invited Misfits Member David, to attend and feedback on the performance Knott by Nikki & JD taking place at Filwood Community Centre.

Knot describes itself as “Physically exhilarating and touchingly poignant – the internationally acclaimed debut circus and dance work by Nikki & JD.

Nikki & JD use hand-to-hand circus skills to tell the tale of an impossible choice: how can we be honest with ourselves without hurting those we love? Knot is a finely crafted theatrical journey through the struggles of commitment. Created in collaboration with award-winning choreographer Ben Duke of Lost Dog Dance Company, Knot is a very modern affair told with delicate sensitivity through breath-taking acrobatics and heart wrenching dance”.

What David had to say about his experience of the show:

“On Friday 1st November I went to see a show at Filwood Community Centre called Knot with Nikki and JD. They told the story of how they met though movement and music, I thought it was amazing and Nikki and JD were really good performers.

It started off happy and then by the end it was sad. I have never seen anything like it before, the movement was fantastic and music went really well with the story. I thought the story was just brilliant, I would recommend to anyone who want to see a show like this as you will be for a treat”.

You can still catch Knott is being shown this weekend in Yeoville and North Devon. See their website for more details and watch this space as we check out future performance across the city.

'It's always a pleasure to collaborate with The Misfits for the video articles that Disability & Society produces annually. Their creativity and talents really add value to each video and they're a splendid group of people to work with!'
